sad reality of webdevs in 2025

are webdevs cooked in 2025 ?

webdevs are simple creatures they live in the browsers think about UI and UX how to integrate database for their stupid dashboard for the 100th time maybe wrap their head around a fullstack metaframework like nextjs or nuxt and live with it till the emergenece of ai they made a living by selling simple solutions that took effort to create and they were proud to call themselves a programmer

primary sources of income of webdevs comes from

  • landing pages / portfolios
  • dashboards for companies businesses other tools for institutions solutions such as an online store etc
  • maybe internal tools , more dashboards , progressive webapps etc

this is webdevs job as someone who has observed this profession with passion for becoming one i can say that webdevs are in a sad state in 2025 or are they

cost of automation

webdevs are not the most easily replaceable profession , there are tons of other profession that could be automated by AI but webdevs are the ones in the most demand for being replaced companies are looking for ways to cut costs and increase efficiency and webdevs are costly and time consuming to hire and train so they turn to ai

ai itself will not replace webdevs, as it makes mistake its like a stupid intern who knows a lot of things but does not know where exactly things go , but thats not the point suppose you are a person who knows how to manage these interns give them small tasks induvidually to complete and then u yourself tell anotehr slightly smarter intern to put things together bit by bit or do that yourself , you went from a single dev writing components.tsx file to someone who has an entire team in his hands all you have to do is review the code and make sure it works

it works i have tried , backwards mentality of us is whats preventing us from accepting LLMs code and working on top of it most experineced webdevs sees it as jargon but think of it even if u were to write this jargon how long would it take you the point is not to use a single llm but multiple llms instances to do diffrent tasks that do not interfere with each other and put them together

sometimes you need context from one llm to another this is where docs comes in docs are a great way to document the code for llm s to understand the context suddenly you are a project manager with a team of interns

no longer the senior dev who writes code you are the one who manages the interns but you yourself could be an intern with sufficient help with gpt i think even interns could manage a whole team of webdev llms

what am i saying ?

webdevs are not cooked yet but they will be if they dont evolve pay for the tools that help you learn to manage llms learn to write prompts learn to document code for llms and just build with llms and start working on top of it

you will be surprised how much you can do with llms , you can skip the prototyping phase and go directly to building phase its incredible i believe

the bubble will burst but things will stay

autocomplete on steroids that is ai will likely be used to code till as far as we develop absolute intelligence because even if the autocomplete isnt perfect and needs tweaking , tweaking is faster than building from scrach as far as it can give a rough prototyping we can guide it to the right direction and make it build whatever we want

time savers have never been abandoned by humanity we value time way too much, do u think theyll shut down the datacenters even if it dried up seas , its humans we are talking about we burn fossil fuels knowing its bad for environment and still refuses to stop cause cars save us time no way are we gonna code without ai , ofcourse there will be purist who will code without ai but they will be few and maybe their jobs will be nieche like writing drivers or kernels or some complicated mission critical software where ai’s are far too unpredictable and prone to messup here again llms will be used to check for errors and mistakes

llms are here to stay and ig we should just accept i am not an llm glazer i hate em i personally think they have ruined coding for me , but we dont have time for fustrations we have to move on this is life , sometimes we have to use what we hate to survive

prediction , its already happening

co-orprates will ditch the managerial positons first as team size is going to shrink way too much they will appoint devs who are experts in controlling ai , ones who has shown to build things fast with ai and efficiently these people might even get a new name who knows anyways such devs will be prefered over rusty devs rusty devs who might have prooved their worth will stay either to guide the ones or they themselves will become experts in ai because the learning curve is not that steep for those veterans

the ones who will be cooked are the ones who refuse to build with ai , theres no such thing as learning ai ai is userfriendly and u dont need to learn it , just use it in your workflow and you get good cybersecurity roles would be in demand as the companies will need people to test and check if ai has overlooked critical security flaws

so in the new era there will be devs who can work with ai , cybersecurity people who themselves would realy on ai a lot and some purist devs who are super cracked that even ai cant replace them imagine an ai that can replace linus torvalds not happening

how to preserve your sanity as a CS enjoyer

me being me i am not the most capable dev out there , i am a webdev by trait which makes me dumber than the rest of the actual programmer tbh webdevs are at the lower end of iq spectrum unless you are someone like evan you or rich harris and all those people who make insane libraries the thing is they werent webdevs from the start they were actual programmers who got into webdev

so i am not an actual programmer , welll i am bad one at that while building web projects with help of ai i get more time to focus on being the actual programmer who solves problems, who understand langauge internals , datastructures theory of computation etc

i can focus on learning innerworking of stuff like llms , OS , compilers etc which i think is more enjoyable as a CS major obv i am not high IQed enough for that but that doesnt stop me from enjoying shit i like like u dont have to be einstein to like physics
